It's not cruel if you don't identify the student. Some English prep schools publish silly things written by pupils in their annual magazine. No one knows who wrote what.
Hmm, sounds like a slippery path to go down though. If The Kids found out they might then write their essays with the possibility of being published in your blog uppermost in their minds!

I would say yes, just change the wording slightly so that it's not immediately clear who wrote it while still keeping the main message.
